Eana Agopian is a printmaker and multidisciplinary artist based in Southwest Michigan. Her work explores transformation, intuition, and the unseen aspects of the human experience through layered, process-driven imagery.
Artistic Background and Education
Eana studied art education and fine art photography at Western Michigan University’s Gwen Frostic School of Art. After completing her undergraduate work, she spent seven years organizing art, music, and food-related events throughout Kalamazoo’s vibrant creative community.
She later continued her studies at Kendall College of Art and Design, where she earned her MFA in Printmaking in 2016. The Urban Institute of Contemporary Art awarded Agopian with the Fresh Pick Award for her thesis exhibition, Occultation, and featured her work there in the summer of 2017.
A Process Rooted in Transformation
Eana’s work is deeply rooted in process and transformation. Rather than beginning with a fixed outcome, she allows materials, intuition, and experimentation to guide each piece as it evolves.
“The process of creating this artwork embraces the progressive nature of transformation… Allowing the materials and processes to guide the creation, a great depth of insight into the unseen aspects of the mind can be revealed.”
Her work draws inspiration from themes of alchemy, psychology, and sensory perception, exploring spaces that feel both mysterious and immersive. Each layer reacts to the one before it, creating compositions that feel alive and constantly evolving.
Layered Work with Depth and Meaning
Eana builds her prints through a layered approach, where each stage informs the next. This method creates visual depth while reinforcing the conceptual foundation of her work. The final piece does not aim to resolve the mystery. Instead, it invites the viewer to engage with it.
Her work encourages reflection, asking viewers to consider similar questions within their own experience and perception. Through this approach, her prints become less about answers and more about exploration.
Fine Art Printmaking and Reproduction
Artwork like Eana’s benefits from high-quality giclée printing, where subtle textures, tonal variation, and layered color can be preserved. Accurate reproduction ensures that the depth and complexity of her original work translate effectively into print form.
